I’ve been a staffing specialist for several years now, and I’ve had the pleasure to interact with employers and job seekers from many walks of life and socioeconomic levels.
One thing has remained constant through these years. Once we get past the labels and categories thrust upon us at since birth, we’re all humans working toward solutions – to a hiring need, to a career change, to a personal goal that hasn’t yet been reached.
So it’s with a measure of surprise that I slowly acknowledge what I haven’t wanted to see – a quiet, insidious form of candidate “selection” that doesn’t stem from the standard measures: degree, resume, personal interview, aptitude tests. It comes from… the perceived ethnicity of the name.
